The government of the State of Sonora and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit signed an agreement to provide facilities for the temporary admission of vehicles of foreign origin, owned by foreign tourists and Mexicans residing abroad, to circulate exclusively in the territory. of the State of Sonora, from which it has the following benefits:

1.      Free movement zone in the State of Sonora : (green zone, see map ).

​

Foreign vehicles owned by foreign tourists or Mexicans residing abroad can circulate freely in the Northwest of the State of Sonora, without it being necessary to have any type of permit for temporary importation. 

​

The northwest of the State of Sonora is delimited to the east by federal highway no. 2, from Agua Prieta, Sonora to its junction with Federal Highway no. 15 in Imuris, Sonora and from this last point to Empalme, Sonora, along highway no. 15; west from San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, following the limits of the State and the coastline to Empalme, Sonora. (green area).

Attached recreational vehicles: In the event that the car transports recreational vehicles (motorcycles, tricycles, quad bikes, jet skis, that have not been conceived, intended or manufactured to circulate on general communication routes, or a boat of up to 4 and half meters in length), you will not be able to use the benefit of the free zone and it will be necessary to request a temporary import permit at any of the CIITEV modules located at the customs entrance to Mexico, where you must register said units (maximum 3 recreational vehicles), complying with the requirements set forth in the automobile section referred to on this site.
